Il corso si propone
- Di fornire la conoscenza degli strumenti statistici utilizzati in azienda per la raccolta e l’analisi dei dati.
- Di permettere allo studente di comprendere ed utilizzare in modo appropriato i principali metodi statistici adottati in campo scientifico, funzionali alle discipline in cui è articolato il corso di laurea.
- Di fornire una esperienza pratica su esempi di dati reali mediante esercitazioni.
In particolare il corso vuole rendere gli studenti in grado di: descrivere un insieme di dati, utilizzare gli strumenti base del calcolo delle probabilità, effettuare inferenze statistiche su variabili continue e discrete evidenziando l’utilità delle tecniche statistiche per l'analisi empirica nelle varie discipline che caratterizzano il corso di laurea.

Matematica

La didattica si basa sulla seguente articolazione:
- Lezioni frontali durante le quali il docente presenta gli argomenti del corso e invita gli studenti a partecipare attivamente ad esse, presentando esempi, formulando domande e rispondendo a domande.
- Esercitazioni svolte dal docente durante le quali si analizzano sia dati fittizi che reali anche con l'utilizzo di excel.
- Esercitazioni svolte dagli studenti con la supervisione del docente durante le quali gli studenti analizzano un problema statistico al fine di utilizzare le tecniche statistiche più appropriate presentate durante il corso e di interpretare i risultati.
- Studio individuale: agli studenti sono suggeriti alcuni libri di testo, slide ed esercizi disponibili on line funzionali allo sviluppo di autonome capacità di apprendimento

La prova finale consiste
- Nella risoluzione di quesiti statistici e interpretazione dei risultati.
- Dialogo da cui sia possibile per il docente valutare il grado di comprensione, assimilazione e applicazione degli strumenti approfonditi sempre in ottica di problem solving.
Lo studente può accedere alla prova orale solo nel caso in cui superi la prova scritta.
I candidati dovranno dimostrare il possesso di adeguate conoscenze, capacità di elaborazione e comunicazione di soluzioni coerenti con le problematiche affrontate nel corso, applicando in maniera pertinente gli strumenti statistici oggetto del programma.

Nel corso si affrontano i seguenti argomenti:
- Introduzione alla Statistica. Fasi di un'indagine statistica. Rilevazione statistica.
- Variabili statistiche quantitative e qualitative.
- Indici statistici di posizione - media aritmetica, media geometrica, moda, quartili.
- Indici statistici di variabilità - variabilità assoluta e relativa.
- Rappresentazioni grafiche: Istogrammi, Box-Plot, Diagrammi a barre, Diagrammi circolari.
- Distribuzioni bivariate di frequenza. Analisi della Dipendenza e dell’Interdipendenza.
- Calcolo delle probabilità – definizioni e assiomi della probabilità, concetti primitivi, postulati, principali teoremi. Indipendenza stocastica.
- Definizione di una variabile casuale. Variabili casuali discrete: v.c. di Bernoulli, v.c. Binomiale. Variabili casuali continue: v.c. Normale, Teorema del limite centrale.
- Principi e metodi dell'inferenza statistica. Distribuzioni campionarie. Teoria della Stima. Stimatori e stime di un parametro. Proprietà finite di uno stimatore. Verifica delle ipotesi statistiche – Potenza di un Test - test sul valor medio e sulla proporzione. Intervalli di confidenza per il valor medio e la proporzione.
- Modello di Regressione lineare semplice. Ipotesi del modello. Metodo dei minimi quadrati. Proprietà degli stimatori dei minimi quadrati. Test sul coefficiente di regressione

- To provide practical experience on examples of real data through exercises.
In particular, the course aims to make students able to: describe a set of data, use the basic tools of probability calculation, perform statistical inferences on continuous and discrete variables highlighting the utility of statistical techniques for empirical analysis in the various disciplines that characterize the degree course.

Maths

The teaching is organised as follow:
- Lectures, during which the teacher presents the course topics and looks for to capture student interest, by presenting examples, by asking for and answering questions.
- Exercises conducted by the teacher during which we analyze real and simulated data.
- Exercises carried out by students with supervision of the teacher during which students analyze a statistical problem in order to use the most appropriate statistical techniques presented during the course.
- Individual study: textbooks, slides and exercises useful to the development of the autonomous learning are suggested to students.

The final exam is both written and oral. It consists of:
- resolution of exercises and statistical interpretation of results.
- dialogue from which it is possible for the teacher to assess the degree of understanding, assimilation and application of tools presented during the course.
The student can access the oral exam only if he exceeds the written test.
Candidates must show sufficient knowledge, ability to process and communicate solutions consistent with the topics addressed in the course.

- Introduction to Statistics. Phases of a statistical survey.
- Quantitative and qualitative variables.
- Measures of location: arithmetic mean, geometric mean, mode, median, quartiles.
- Variability indexes - absolute and relative variability.
- Graphical Representations: Histograms, Box-Plot, bar diagrams, circular diagrams.
- Bivariate distributions. Analysis of Dependence and Interdependence.
- Probability calculus: random experiments, event space and random events, probability function, Kolmogorov axioms, probability theorems, conditional probability, independence.
- Discrete random variables: probability mass function and cumulative function. Bernoulli, Binomial and Uniform distributions.
- Continuous random variables: probability density function and cumulative function. Gaussian, Chi-square, t distributions
- Introduction to statistical inference: central limit theorem, De Moivre-Laplace theorem, Estimators and properties, point and interval estimation, testing hypotheses Neyman-Pearson Lemma
- Classical normal linear regression model: assumptions of the model, method of least squares and its statistical properties, hypothesis testing.
