The Department of Economics was founded in 2012, following the reform law which promoted the transformation of the old Faculties into the current Departments. Its origin dates back to 1991, when the ‘Seconda università di Napoli’ was founded.
The Department is located in Capua, in the ancient convent ‘Santa Maria delle Monache’, by Volturno river. In 1800 the building became the barracks of the Bourbon army entitled to Ettore Fieramosca. Now, it is devoted to the promotion of knowledge and higher education.
The Department hosts around 70 Professors. Due to the high quality of teaching and research activities, it is considered one of the most prestigious Departments in the South of Italy in business and legal fields. It is always in contact with public and private institutions along with local firms and organizations in order to promote the economic and social growth and adapt its educational syllabus to the changeable needs deriving from the business field. Thanks to these institutional contacts, students are constantly provided with interesting internship opportunities.
During these years, the Department has also been involved in projects in cooperation with the Chambers of Commerce located in Naples and Caserta and the Association of Manufacturers in Caserta, among others.
The educational syllabus offered by the Department of Economics provides the students with a strong educational background aimed at understanding the current financial and economic systems and promoting the acquisition of professional skills from a multidisciplinary perspective. Particular attention is devoted to foreign languages learning and IT skills.
In 1996 and 1998 the students from the Department of Economics won the prestigious National Prize ‘Philip Morris’ (a prize in the marketing field). In 2002 they were second. In the following years they have been among the top ten candidates.
The degree courses offered by the Department of Economics have recorded high employment rates over the years, which are higher than those from the other universities in the South of Italy.
